Tory Lanez has revealed the title, cover art, and release date for his upcoming album, Peterson, which was recorded entirely while serving his prison sentence. The album, a follow-up to his 2020 release Daystar, is set to drop on Friday, March 7.
Announcing the project on Instagram, Lanez wrote, “Dear 2025 … This COMEBACK is PERSONAL. ALBUM NAME – PETERSON. SEQUEL OF – DAYSTAR. FRIDAY!” The cover art features a shirtless image of Lanez, seemingly taken from prison.
In a February call to the Full Send podcast, Lanez described the project as “the first ever in-real-time prison album,” stating that it was recorded “for prisoners, by a prisoner, in real time.” He emphasized that the album maintains his signature sound but carries deeper emotion, reflecting his current circumstances.
Lanez has faced challenges while recording behind bars. According to TMZ, he was working on a verse last month when a prison riot broke out, forcing him to stop as officers intervened. Previously, his recording equipment was confiscated during a cell raid, leading him to criticize prison officials.
Despite these setbacks, Lanez has continued efforts to support inmates through his music. In an Instagram post, he claimed The Prison Tapes project was halted due to interference from prison authorities but stated that his broader mission remained intact. He asserted that since July, he has helped secure legal representation for 472 inmates and reopened 476 cases.
