Kendrick Lamar Wins NAACP Image Award For "Not Like Us" Video.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album, adding to its five Grammy wins and other accolades. The video, released on July 4, 2024, featured symbolic imagery, including a piñata beat-down and hopscotch scene, further cementing the song’s cultural impact.

Lamar’s success with “Not Like Us” also contributed to a career milestone, as he became the first rapper to surpass 105 million monthly listeners on Spotify. While some see this as a revival, many view it as overdue recognition of his artistic influence.

However, the track also led to legal challenges. Drake filed a defamation lawsuit against UMG over the song, though reports indicate he removed key allegations from the case. This legal battle remains ongoing.

Meanwhile, Lamar’s success continues with “luther,” his collaboration with SZA, which is projected to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. If achieved, he would become the first rapper with four No. 1 hits in a year, following “Like That,” “Not Like Us,” and “squabble up.”
