Microsoft has begun rolling out an AI-powered “Scareware Blocker” for its Edge browser on Windows PCs. The security feature helps detect scams that modify the browser interface to deceive users into calling fake tech support numbers.
Scareware Blocker uses a machine learning model to recognize scam patterns. When it detects a potential threat, Edge exits full-screen mode and displays a warning. Users can report suspicious websites or dispute false flags.
Announced at Ignite 2023, the feature is still in preview. To enable it, go to Edge Settings > Privacy, search, and services. If the option is missing, updating the browser may help.
