Cenat credits a large part of his growth, both personally and professionally, to his early connection with Phantom, a fellow Bronx native and established YouTuber.
Initially focused on creating content for YouTube, Kai recalls earning a steady income before deciding to pivot to streaming in 2021. This turning point came after he acquired a PC, inspired by Phantom’s encouragement and relentless work ethic. “Phantom saw something in me before I even started streaming,” Cenat shared, emphasizing how Phantom’s belief in his potential fueled his drive.
It wasn’t long before Phantom extended an invitation to Kai to fly out to Atlanta, where he met the rest of the group—Agent, Duke, Phantom, and Chris—who had already made waves in the gaming and real-life content space. The group had built a formidable following, especially through their engaging NBA 2K content. Chris, initially the group’s editor, played a vital role in shaping their brand and channel.
For Kai, stepping into this new environment was both thrilling and nerve-wracking. He vividly remembers his first trip to Atlanta, describing the awe he felt seeing large homes and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. “Everything felt surreal, from seeing the YouTube plaques to just being in that creative space,” he recalled. Despite his initial shyness during their first shoot, it didn’t take long for him to loosen up, thanks to Phantom’s encouragement.
One defining moment came during a challenge where the loser had to jump into a mall fountain. While others hesitated, Kai seized the opportunity, impressing the group with his energy and fearless attitude. That moment cemented his place within the crew and left a lasting impression on his future teammates.
Later that night, the group gathered for a heart-to-heart conversation, and Agent asked Kai if he wanted to officially join them. Although Kai initially feared disrupting the group’s chemistry, he ultimately decided to take the leap. It wasn’t smooth sailing from the start—he admits that Duke was initially distant—but over time, bonds were forged, and they grew into a close-knit family.
Living together provided Kai with his first real taste of independence. Sharing a house with the group fostered his creativity, offering both personal space and professional opportunities that helped him evolve as a content creator. While Kai believes he would have found success on his own, he acknowledges that joining the group fast-tracked his rise and provided invaluable support along the way.
