Microsoft has introduced new updates to enhance file sharing between iPhones and Windows PCs. The latest updates for the Phone Link app on Windows PCs and the Link to Windows app on iOS devices now allow users to transfer files seamlessly between their devices.
To transfer files from an iPhone, users can navigate to the desired file, tap the “Share” icon, select “Link to Windows,” and choose their PC. This functionality requires an iPhone running iOS 16 or later. To transfer files from a Windows PC, users can right-click on the selected files and choose “My Phone.” If “My Phone” is not visible, they can select “Phone Link” instead.
Microsoft initially launched the Phone Link app last year, allowing Windows users to access their iPhones remotely. The app supports making calls, checking notifications, sending and receiving iMessages, and viewing photos and contacts. However, iOS Phone Link features remain limited compared to Android, primarily due to Apple’s OS restrictions. For instance, while Windows users can reply to individual iMessages, group texts are unsupported, and iOS users cannot mirror phone apps like Android users.
This new file-sharing capability is currently available to Windows Insiders as part of a testing phase. Microsoft plans to roll out the feature to all users in the coming months, adding to the app’s utility and bridging the gap between iOS and Windows platforms.
