The second season of the well-known drama series Bel-Air, which premieres at Peacock in February, has cast Saweetie as a guest star.
According to Variety, the Bay Area rapper will play herself in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air-inspired sitcom. She will appear in an unspecified number of episodes.
Bel-Air is a modern drama that reimagines the difficult journey of the series’ main character, Jabari Banks, from the rough streets of West Philadelphia into the lap of luxury abundant in the wealthy gated neighborhood of Bel-Air. It is based on the viral short film that director Morgan Cooper produced in 2019.
The series’ aim is to “dig deeper into the fundamental conflicts, emotions, and biases that were impossible to adequately explore in a 30-minute sitcom format,” according to executive producers Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and Will Smith himself.
After being picked up by Peacock for two seasons, the show made its premiere in 2022 and soon gained admirers beyond those of the original NBC sitcom. One of them, DJ Jazzy Jeff, expressed support for the new series in an interview.
