Akon Shares Updates On Akon City And Announces Upcoming Album Not Guilty.

Akon has shared new details about the progress of Akon City, his large-scale development project in Senegal. In an interview with Chuck Creekmur of AllHipHop, he acknowledged that the project, announced in 2018, remains in its early stages. Described as a futuristic, eco-friendly city powered by cryptocurrency, Akon City was initially met with comparisons to Wakanda from *Black Panther*, partly because the first film in the series had been released just months earlier.

Reflecting on the timeline, Akon admitted, “My biggest thing was I promoted it way, way, way too early.” He explained that excitement about the project prompted an early announcement before substantial progress had been made. “Anything that exciting that would change a culture, people will naturally want to know what’s happening right now, assuming that it’s already happening. But it was in a process of creating,” he said.

Akon City is envisioned as a $6 billion project covering 2,000 acres in Mbodiene, Senegal. The plan includes luxury apartments, a cryptocurrency-based economy, and energy-efficient systems, aiming to create a technological and economic hub for Africa. Construction officially began in 2020. While still in the development phase, Akon reiterated the importance of the project for African innovation and growth. “It’s a city. Nowhere near done,” he clarified, emphasizing the complexity of building an entire urban area.

The project also has personal significance for Akon. “Senegal is home to my family and heritage,” he said during an appearance on *Assets Over Liabilities* last year. “I want to make a lasting impact that bridges the gap between the people of Senegal and the rest of the world. It’s a process.” The city’s goals include not only attracting tourists and investors but also creating opportunities for Africans to thrive within their own communities.

In addition to discussing Akon City, Akon confirmed that his sixth studio album, *Not Guilty*, is slated for release in 2025. This marks his return to music alongside his ongoing work as an entrepreneur.

Akon remains committed to the city’s completion and its potential impact, but he acknowledges the long-term nature of the project. Time will reveal how this ambitious effort unfolds.
