Grafh Shares the Ups and Downs of His Career, Upcoming Tour Plans, and NFT Pioneering.

In a recent episode of Cook’N Up 215 with host Smooth, New York rapper Grafh shared a candid conversation reflecting on his life, career struggles, and eventual success while savoring a meal by Chef Dina from G Kitchen. Grafh’s story is one of resilience, ambition, and unwavering dedication to his craft.

Grafh originally had ambitions of becoming a doctor and studied at St. John’s University for three years. He also had an art scholarship before college but became involved in street life following the tragic murder of his father at age 16. Ultimately, music became his chosen path after catching the attention of Busta Rhymes.

Grafh’s music career has been a rollercoaster, marked by major record deals with Sony and Rocafella that eventually fell through. He became a prominent name on the mixtape circuit alongside artists like 50 Cent. Throughout his journey, Grafh has collaborated with numerous industry heavyweights, including Beyoncé, Kanye West, and Bun B. Despite significant setbacks such as financial losses and tax issues, he ultimately chose to go fully independent, teaming up with partner Max Wayne.

Grafh’s relentless work ethic and belief in staying focused on his goals define him. He rejects the notion of a “Plan B,” pouring himself completely into his music and ventures. Ahead of his time, Grafh began selling album art as NFTs back in 2016, demonstrating his forward-thinking approach. He’s also passionate about immersing himself in diverse cultures when traveling, bringing authenticity to his experiences.

Grafh’s story is one of bouncing back. After facing numerous personal and professional setbacks, including a life reset and rebuilding his network, he continues to work independently. He has partnered with producer 38 Spesh and runs his clothing line, Dope NYC. Grafh describes himself as “addicted to the grind,” constantly creating new music and projects.

Grafh revealed that his career experienced a major resurgence during the COVID-19 pandemic, when audiences became more attentive to lyrical content over club hits. This shift led to a period of increased financial stability for him. He also reflected on challenges within the music industry, noting the influence of gatekeepers and radio stations on the popularity of different genres.

For Grafh, collaboration is key. He advises new artists to invest in themselves and prioritize independence over signing deals. Grafh recently worked on a track featuring former Rocafella team members, inspired by their early 2000s sound. With upcoming projects that include a Rockefeller tour and collaborations with Joyner Lucas and Method Man, Grafh remains focused on living his dream.

Throughout the episode, Smooth and Grafh praised Chef Dina’s cooking, especially her candy yams and wings, adding a warm, communal atmosphere to the interview.
