Hannah Bronfman, content creator and former DJ, joined Blavity CEO Morgan DeBaun for a conversation at AfroTech about her journey as an angel investor and advocate for overlooked startups, particularly those led by Black women. Bronfman, who has raised millions for over 70 companies across beauty, wellness, and healthcare, highlighted the importance of strategic investing and leveraging networks.
Bronfman’s journey began when she co-founded a beauty app, later transitioning into investments by raising funds through her network. By 2017, she was writing checks and gaining equity in companies in exchange for marketing efforts. Her portfolio includes brands like Topicals, Golde, and Kind Body, which is now valued at $1.8 billion.
During the talk, Bronfman emphasized investing in sectors one understands and the importance of transparency and community connections in finding opportunities. She shared how her work as a DJ opened doors to partnerships, helping her clients gain visibility.
Looking ahead, Bronfman aims to establish her own venture capital firm, focusing on creating generational wealth and addressing the lack of Black-owned holding companies in the culture.
For Bronfman, the journey is about responsibility and creating lasting impact through venture capital.
