Musical.AI Partners With Kanjian To Offer Licensed Music Catalog For Ethical AI Training.

Musical.AI, a company specializing in secure rights management for AI training, announced a partnership with China-based license management firm Kanjian to offer a fully licensed music catalog to AI developers. Unlike many music catalogs, Kanjian’s collection is fully cleared for AI applications, eliminating the need for additional permissions. This collaboration allows AI companies to train models using an “ethically licensed solution” that aligns with high industry standards for data use, according to a statement from Musical.AI on November 12.

In June, Musical.AI (formerly Somms.ai) launched a rights management platform to ensure proper attribution and compensation for copyrighted content used in AI training. Described as a “secure go-between” for rights holders and AI developers, the platform includes partnerships with various rights holders and music libraries. The addition of Kanjian’s catalog expands the platform’s diversity, though the catalog’s exact size remains undisclosed.

Matt Adell, co-founder and COO of Musical.AI, emphasized that partnerships with rights holders like Kanjian enable the platform to support music that reflects global cultural diversity. Tinko Georgiev, Kanjian’s VP, praised the partnership, noting that Kanjian’s licensing experience aligns with Musical.AI’s vision for a fair music ecosystem. This collaboration, he added, extends Kanjian’s licensing infrastructure, supporting transparent and efficient monetization for creators and tech innovators.

Kanjian, a leader in music license management automation, has provided services to over one million creators and 100,000 organizations, reaching an audience of over a billion listeners worldwide. Through Musical.AI’s platform, rights holders can monitor AI use of their works, request takedowns, and set limits on content usage. AI developers gain access to licensed data for training and reports on the source materials in AI-generated content.

Additionally, Musical.AI offers a feature to calculate the contribution of each source material in AI-generated works, enabling fairer attribution and compensation. The company is among the first certified by Fairly Trained, a non-profit that assesses AI models for respect for creators’ rights. CEO Sean Power emphasized the need to value human-created inputs, suggesting that an attribution platform like Musical.AI is essential in a future where creative work holds distinct value.
