Tyler, The Creator’s new album Chromakopia has debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, achieving the highest sales for any new rap album this year. Chromakopia reached a total of 299,500 album equivalent units, with 157,000 from on-demand streams and 142,000 from direct album sales, marking the biggest first-week sales of Tyler’s career. For comparison, his last album, Call Me If You Get Lost, earned 169,000 units in its opening week, while Igor had 165,000.
This release also highlights the impact of early-week launches; Tyler dropped the album on a Monday, skipping an entire weekend of sales and streams. With a full week, he might have surpassed the year’s top rap debut, the reissue of Travis Scott’s Days Before Rodeo, which opened with 361,000 units. Tyler’s success suggests that early-week releases could rival traditional Friday drops, offering fans a full week to engage with new music.
Following Chromakopia, the Billboard top ten includes Halsey’s The Great Impersonator at No. 2, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet at No. 3, Kelsea Ballerini’s Patterns at No. 4, Rod Wave’s Last Lap at No. 5, Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady at No. 6, Gracie Abrams’ The Secret of Us at No. 7, Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time at No. 8, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft at No. 9, and GloRilla’s Glorious at No. 10.
