Mike Krieger Teases Claude's New AI Feature Aiming To Transform Workplace Productivity.

Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram and now chief product officer at Anthropic, is leading the development of Claude, a ChatGPT competitor focused on business applications. As a standalone chatbot, Claude offers free and paid plans, but its upcoming “computer use” feature, teased by Krieger, promises to revolutionize workplace efficiency by allowing Claude to control apps on users’ PCs just like a person would, by clicking buttons, typing text, and navigating screens.

Currently, “computer use” is only available to developers through the Claude API, but it follows Krieger’s mission to make Claude an invaluable tool for businesses. With “millions” of individual users and “tens of thousands” of business accounts, Krieger aims to grow its enterprise reach by positioning Claude as a task-oriented, productivity-enhancing assistant.

Krieger advises companies interested in AI to start with small pilot projects, invest in education and training, and prioritize ethics and data security. He stresses that Claude’s design is about enhancing productivity and problem-solving without fostering dependency like social media platforms.

As AI adoption grows, ethical concerns persist, including potential job displacement, data privacy issues, and the risk of people becoming overly reliant on AI. Krieger, however, emphasizes that Anthropic is committed to responsible AI development, with a focus on extensive testing and collaboration with experts.

Krieger envisions that within five years, Claude will reach “expert-level competence” in fields like healthcare, finance, and engineering, making it an essential business tool for the future. Whether companies are ready to integrate Claude into their operations remains the key question.
