OpenAI Tests Windows ChatGPT App With Limited Access And New Features.

OpenAI has started testing a Windows app for ChatGPT, available for download from the Microsoft Store. Access is limited to ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users, as shared in an X post by OpenAI. The app works on Windows 10 (version 17763.0 or newer) and Windows 11 and uses OpenAI’s o1 language model, which offers better reasoning but responds more slowly.

Similar to the macOS version, ChatGPT for Windows can be used alongside other apps, and users can quickly access it with the Alt+Space shortcut. You can interact with the chatbot by typing queries or uploading files for analysis. The app also supports DALL-E for image generation.

Currently, the Advanced Voice mode is missing from the early version of the Windows app, but OpenAI plans to include it in the full release later this year. ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month, but users can also use the free web version or Microsoft Copilot as alternatives. Some newer Windows PCs feature a Copilot key, which can be customized to launch ChatGPT instead.
