The Weeknd Breaks His Own Record On Spotify, Reaches 120.5 Million Monthly Listeners.

The Weeknd has officially surpassed his previous record as the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, reaching over 120.5 million. This milestone comes after he became the first artist to achieve 100 million monthly listeners in February 2023. Since then, he has held the top position, except for a brief one-month period. Taylor Swift recently joined him as the only other artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners, while Billie Eilish is quickly approaching the mark.

This achievement coincides with the release of The Weeknd’s latest music video for “Timeless,” a collaboration with Playboi Carti, produced by Pharrell. Additionally, fans have been enjoying the hit song “Dancing in the Flames” from his highly anticipated album Hurry Up Tomorrow, which is now available on vinyl and CD.

“Timeless” debuted at No. 3 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, making it the most-streamed song of the week. This marks the highest first-week chart position in The Weeknd’s career, and it also represents his 19th Top 10 single. For Playboi Carti, it’s his fifth Top 10 hit. The duo first premiered the track in Brazil last month before officially releasing it on September 27, where it garnered over 10 million streams within its first day.

In September, The Weeknd performed a sold-out stadium concert in São Paulo, which was streamed live on YouTube. Millions of fans around the world tuned in to experience his captivating performance, which featured special guests Playboi Carti and Anitta. The concert trended in 24 countries and became the highest-trending music event in the U.S., cementing his status as a global superstar.

In a philanthropic gesture, 10% of net proceeds from merchandise sales at the concert and online went to the Brazilian Soul Fund of BrazilFoundation. The fund supports communities affected by natural disasters and economic hardships in southern Brazil.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is the third and final part of a trilogy, following After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022), marking the end of this chapter in The Weeknd’s music career.
