Southside Trap Mentors Youth, Advocates for Unity in Boston Music Scene & More.

In a recent episode of The Bounce Back podcast, host B Luke sat down with Southside Trap, a Boston rapper who spent 15.5 years behind bars before having his life sentence overturned. Now free, Southside Trap is dedicated to mentoring youth and pursuing his music career.

Growing up in South End Boston, Southside Trap fell into the wrong crowd and faced a life sentence. Since his release, he’s focused on guiding younger generations away from the mistakes he made. “It’s about giving back,” he says. “I want to show these kids that there’s a better way.” Southside Trap believes that entrepreneurship is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and crime. He’s currently working on his music career and launching a t-shirt line with his team. “Education is important, but it’s not the only way,” he explains. “Find your passion, pursue it, and create your own opportunities.”

Reentering society after prison comes with its own challenges. Southside Trap emphasizes the constant vigilance required to stay out of trouble. “You have to be aware of your surroundings and make smart choices,” he says. “Music has been a great outlet for me, and I hope it can be for others too.” Southside Trap calls for unity in the Boston music scene, urging artists to focus on collaboration rather than competition. He also warns young musicians about the increased law enforcement scrutiny on the local music scene. “Be cautious and aware,” he advises. “One wrong move can ruin everything.”

Throughout the interview, Southside Trap emphasizes the importance of family, mentorship, and finding positive alternatives to street life. His story is a testament to the power of redemption and the importance of giving back to the community.
