Black Cannabis Week 2024 Returns To Educate And Empower The Cannabis Community With A Focus On Inclusion.

The much-anticipated 2024 Black Cannabis Week (BCW) is returning with a new “unconference” format, aimed at educating both stakeholders and community members, according to Ganjapreneur. Starting on Sept. 22 in Philadelphia, the event, hosted by the Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities (DACO), is themed “Deeply Rooted, Growing Together” and seeks to foster a dynamic and inclusive cannabis community. The week begins with the Daily Dose Tour, offering a series of engaging and inspiring discussions. DACO Co-Founder Cherron Perry-Thomas highlighted the importance of BCW, emphasizing that the events, available in-person and online, provide free access to critical issues and developments in the cannabis industry. “We invite everyone to be part of this trailblazing series. If your state is participating, join us for this unique experience,” said Perry-Thomas.

BCW is a core part of DACO’s annual programming, focused on educating, celebrating, and advancing Black individuals in the cannabis sector while advocating for equity and inclusion.

Signature events of the week include the Cannabis Opportunities Conference, Bouqé Presents Blaze The Runway, and a Policy Breakfast. Pennsylvania state Sen. Sharif Street, an advocate for marijuana legalization, will speak at the conference. He has introduced legislation that would decriminalize cannabis use in Pennsylvania, making it a civil or local offense. Street questioned the need for any penalties related to marijuana use.

The conference will also feature an expungement clinic, job fair, and medical marijuana card registration, focusing on equity, social justice, and economic opportunities in cannabis. The fashion show, Blaze The Runway, produced in collaboration with Black-owned brand Bouqé, will blend fashion, music, and cannabis culture. The Policy Breakfast will give attendees a chance to discuss cannabis policies at various government levels.

Perry-Thomas noted that BCW ensures Black voices in the cannabis industry are heard, providing a global platform for empowerment. He emphasized the week’s workshops, discussions, and networking opportunities as a way to bring together and celebrate voices from across the diaspora. This offers attendees a chance to learn from industry leaders, connect with peers, and gain valuable insights into cannabis’s future.
