Anthony Hightower Talks Career Shifts, Black Leadership, and Future Plans in Marketing.

In this episode of the ‘Everything Goes’ podcast, Anthony Hightower shares his inspiring and candid journey. A Boston native, Anthony opens up about the challenges he faced during his senior year transition from a city to a suburban high school. Originally pursuing a degree in political science with aspirations of becoming a lawyer, his career path took an unexpected turn when he started working in the mailroom at Puma. Over the course of 17 years, he advanced to become the senior manager of strategic partnerships.

Hightower highlights the significance of networking, even in entry-level roles, as it played a key role in his career progression. He discussed his contributions to several marketing campaigns at Puma, including collaborations with Rihanna’s Fenty line. Beyond his work at Puma, Anthony is also involved in the *Spar Minds* podcast and supports marketing efforts for an independent film.

After 17 years at Puma, Hightower decided to leave, feeling it was time for a change. He shared the challenges of being one of the few Black leaders in the company and the importance of having a voice in marketing decisions. Following a month-long break for his mental health, he joined the Boston Globe as Director of Culture Strategy and Marketing. He stressed the importance of knowing one’s value in the marketing industry, especially for Black professionals, and hinted at the possibility of starting his own marketing firm in the future.
