This weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix saw Kendrick Lamar cap off the third night of the Yasalam F1 concert series with an incredible performance of his biggest hits.
As part of the Formula One (F1) racing event’s star-studded after-race concert series, the pg. Lang MC made an appearance on Saturday, November 19, at the Etihad Park arena. This event featured exclusive performances from artists like Usher, UK rapper Dave, EDM heavyweights Swedish House Mafia, and rock legends Def Leppard.
Kendrick Lamar performed songs from his most recent album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, which has been nominated for a Grammy, as well as hits like “N95” and “Count Me Out,” among others. He also gave amazing live performances of songs like his DAMN. anthem “Humble” and the Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City classic “Money Trees.”
The Atlanta R&B savant Usher also graced the stage on Thursday (November 17), performing a medley of hits, including his 1997 My Way album cut “Nice & Slow” and his 2017 “Party” collaboration with Chris Brown and Gucci Mane. Dave also gave a fiery performance of his international smash “Clash” on that same day.
While J. Cole and The Weeknd performed at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2019 and 2020, respectively, Hip Hop and R&B acts have evidently emerged as a significant draw at the well-liked F1 after-race concert series. Kendrick Lamar will be making his first appearance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
With his recent performance in Abu Dhabi, Kendrick Lamar has added another ferocious and electrifying dimension to his world-trotting tour in support of his record, which he describes as the “prize for mankind.”
K. Dot broke the internet by wearing a $3 million Tiffany & Co. crown of thorns while headlining Glastonbury Festival earlier this year in June. He also made a strong argument for women’s rights just days after the U.S. Supreme Court controversially overturned Roe v. Wade, depriving women of their constitutional right to an abortion.
In addition, last August in New York, Kendrick Lamar gave a private concert for JAY-Z and Beyoncé. In October, he followed that up with a show at the Accor Arena in Paris, which was also live-streamed by Amazon Music.
Kendrick Lamar was recently mentioned as one of the performers who are leading the 2023 Grammy Award nominations.
Two of the eight nominations he received, in various categories, were for his beloved Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers album and his compassionate song “The Heart Pt. 5,” which pays heartfelt homage to late Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle. He also received a nomination for Song of the Year.
