21 Savage used his passion for basketball to give back to his community on Father’s Day.
The rapper “Spin Bout U” organized a youth basketball camp on Sunday (June 18) in Atlanta, Georgia. His own organization, the Leading by Example Foundation, and Freedom Is a Choice Inc. collaborated to sponsor the event.
NCAA champion Flau’jae Johnson, Nassir Little of the Portland Trail Blazers, Jay Scrubb and Kevon Harris of the Orlando Magic, and NBA G League player London Johnson were among the professional ballers in attendance.
The goal of the program was to aid hopefuls between the ages of 10 and 13 in honing their abilities so they could pursue the sport more intensely. The gathering was organized by Savage for young people from similar backgrounds and was hosted in the area where he grew up.
Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash ATL concert on Saturday (June 17), which advertised “21 Savage and Friends” as its headlining act, saw 21 take the stage at State Farm Arena. Fans were left to speculate as to who else could make an appearance at the event.
The thunderous response from the audience suggested that they were ecstatic when J. Cole took the stage and the I Am > I Was song “a lot” started playing. He said, “Just came to the A,” before rapping his stanza. Said, “Pulled up on my n-gga, 21 Savage.”
The “Bank Account” rapper has been active, but things are about to get busier still.
Following the enormous success of their joint album, Drake and 21 Savage have expanded their It’s All A Blur Tour with the addition of 12 extra dates. There are more shows on the enormous tour, which now has 54 dates, in locations including Toronto, Brooklyn, Inglewood, Memphis, Milwaukee, Glendale, and Denver. The tour is scheduled to launch in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 29.
The tour is in support of Drake and 21 Savage’s collaborative album Her Loss, which was released in November and featured appearances from Birdman, Travis Scott, Lil Yachty, and other artists.
The album’s first week sales of almost 400,000 album-equivalent units, the highest in Hip Hop last year, helped the project launch at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
